Qualifying Examination (QE)

All Green Asia (GA) program students MUST undertake a qualifying examination (QE) at the end of the 2nd year of the master’s program in order to progress on to the Ph. D program. If a student were to fail this QE examination, then he/she cannot continue as a GA program student. Consequently their scholarship as well as all other means of financial assistance will cease.

➢ The QE for students who enrolled in graduate schools of Kyushu University from April and joined GA in the autumn will be held in winter.

➢ The QE for overseas students who entered in autumn will be held in the summer.

➢ The student who has satisfied the following qualification for QE within 2 academic years may undertake the QE before the end of the 2nd year of the master’s program.

Qualification for QE

Before undertaking the QE examination, all students MUST satisfy the following criteria.

✔️ The student should have acquired more than 40 credits including the following components

(1)Practical English: 3 credits or more

(2) Industrial Systems: 3 credits or more

(3)Internship: 2 credits (short internship named as “practice school”)

(4)Research: 6 credits (“laboratory rotation”)

The student MUST complete the laboratory rotation in THREE different laboratories.

(5)Social / Environmental / Economic Systems: 10 credits or more

(6)Main and Sub Specialties: 16 credits or more

Qualification to PASS QE

In order to successfully PASS the QE, all students MUST meet the following standard.

✔️ GPA ≧ 3.0 How to calculate GPA

✔️ Pass the “oral examination of the laboratory rotation”.

✔️ Pass the “short essay examination”.

✔️ Pass the “written examination concerning the students major”.
